"Well to take a particular side does not always mean being aggressive, offensive or fanatic for the other side-Its just that you are confident enough to justify yours when asked to"
Been born in a Hindu religious family I was in constant touch with the scriptures, colorful limestone, attractive fragrances, the attributes which separated US from THEM. Belonging to a state composed of versatility of religion, I was quite in touch with how people of different religions including mind made kept their judgement and decisive capability on the base of A BOOK not THE BOOKS.
So, is it really hazardous, naive, or illogical to take decisions on the basis of your religion (Practical ones)??
HELL YES!
Many of my religious friends when justifying there judgments on the basis of religion always have one sentence in common "According to the theory of our religion.." Fellas, Religion is no Theory, Na ,Never..
I am not being offensive and moving my tongue in the most generous way, I have to say that who precaptivates religion as theory haven't read their year 10 or 11 books properly.
OK, how do you convert a particular preposition to THEORY.
Step 1: Propose an assumption.
Step 2: Gather facts to rectify/support your proposition.
Step3: Do experimentation.
Step4: Match the results and its application with reality.
Step5: Make Hypothesis.
Step 6: Based on experimental and factual data convert it into theory.
Step 7: Keep Track for any improvements.
Now you tell me except step 1, does religion follow anything else???? NO.
Brunswikian(1956), gave a lens model for defining relation between perception and Decision making, A good one actually. According to him the rays passing through the lens contributes to the perception and the image formed on the otherside is the decision that has to be taken; now the weight applied on these light rays will actually change the perception of people taking the decision e.g. If we take two 12 yr old kids and put one of them in a religious institution where he can read all the scriptures of a particular religion and send the other kid to a school and give subjects as science and astrophysics. After 5 years ask this question to both of them- " What's up there in the sky"?
Student 1: Its God, The Almighty.
Student 2: Its Mesosphere and after that its Ionosphere u Idiot!
So we just put different weights on different weights which gave us to different perceptions from the same grey matter. Interesting, isn't it?
So, you can see just at that tender age what can you put in your child's mind, A mind to explore or an infertile mind which not ready to experience anything new.
The other reason that most religious people give to validate their argument is as follow:
"Its Written in the holy book, and millions of them follow, millions cant be wrong"
Well, to an extent yes but, let us take it logically,
How many of you have heard about fallacy ad populam?? The basic idea is that a claim is accepted as being true simply because most people are favorably inclined towards the claim. Its same as "Eat Shit, Its delicious, 25 million flies can't be wrong.
So you really want to keep your decisions on the base of A BOOK or logic...Choice is yours!!
